For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.” Psalm 89:14-17
Skipping ahead to Amos 9:1, the Lord is no longer found standing upon a wall, but is now standing upon the brazen altar - the horns of which had been cut off and thrown to the ground in chapter 3 verse 14, signaling an end to God’s patience. The “horns of the altar” had once represented a place of refuge and safety to the fugitives of Israel, as demonstrated by Adonijah when he fled from King Solomon (see 1 Kings 1:49-51, and 2:28-29). The Lord standing upon the altar in place of the horns sent a power statement to Israel in that He alone is our refuge and our salvation.
